Michael Paul Harvey Follow Me Landscape

Details

Through clearing a large colony of Sasa veitchii bamboo, this stone and the massive bedrock it stands on were revealed. The client had explored surrounding landscape as a child, but never knew the rock existed. Why it stands here remains a mystery, but once uncovered, it spoke of becoming a canvas for a graphic pattern scraped into its mossy surface. After years contemplating what the pattern might be, it was decided this would be the shape of the rock perimeter, hence the name “Follow Me”.

As moss takes awhile to grow on standing stone, and to reduce the risk of mistakes, a scaled drawing was made to determine exactly the number of exposed granite areas and those for mossy bands. A piece of bamboo was used as a guide (cut to the width of each band), and the edge of a metal spoon was then used to scrape pattern “away”.
